Call for Papers

2010 American Anthropological Association Annual Meeting

2010 Theme: Circulation

Invited Sessions Deadline: March 8, 2010

All Panels and Papers Deadline: April 1, 2010

The Society for the Anthropology of North America is seeking submissions for the 2010 American Anthropological Association Meeting. For the 2010 meetings, SANA encourages proposals for both Invited and Volunteered Sessions that address the meeting theme of “Circulation.” Given that SANA has long been concerned with the circulation of money, people, power, and cultural practices within and through North America , we encourage submissions that explicitly engage with this theme in an innovative and substantive manner.

Moreover, given the conference’s location we also encourage panel proposals that address how such themes play out in New Orleans by including local academics or others who can contribute to the discussion. For more on this theme, see http://aaanet.org/meetings/Call-for-Papers.cfm.

We also seek proposals which take a more experimental form, departing from the standard panel format. We encourage session topics and formats explicitly designed to stimulate debate and discussion, and that can serve as innovative venues for sharing and critiquing new work.

Invited Status

To be considered for Invited Status, please email complete proposals for either Invited  Sessions or Invited Roundtables by March 8, 2010 to both the SANA Program Committee Chairs, Susan Falls and Julian Brash (sfalls@scad.edu and julian.brash@utoledo.edu). If your session receives Invited Status, we will alert you in time for you to indicate this status when you submit your session and individual papers to the AAA before April 1 at 5 PM.

Complete Invited Session proposals should include a session abstract and a full set of paper abstracts. In the abstract, please detail how the session will further SANA s goal of generating more engaging and lively interaction. We also encourage proposals that can be co-invited with other sections or interest groups. If a proposed session has an overlap with the area or issues addressed by another section or interest group, the organizer should include the name of the section or interest group.

The roundtable format provides an opportunity for discussion of critical social issues effecting anthropology.  No papers are presented in this format. The organizer will submit an abstract for the roundtable, but participants will not present papers or submit abstracts. Participation as a discussant in this type of format will be the participants major role, having the same weight as a paper presentation.

Volunteered Submissions

All volunteered submissions must be submitted directly to the AAA by April 1 at 5 PM. These submissions will then sent to section program committees for consideration.
